Abstract

Shri Kanaiyalal Munshi (1887-1971), a forerunner and aficionado of historical novels in Gujarati established himself as a profound novelist of Gujarati literature. He carved an inimitable place in the hearts of people through his novels that possessed distinctive humane quality. His novel ‘Jaya Somnath’ (1940) divulges Chaula’s unfathomable devotion for Lord Somnath and her ardent desire to be with Him forever. But her intense struggle costs her with life as she passes away at the feet of Lord Shiva towards the end of the novel.
