Megha Singh Tomar,
The realm of supernatural finds an innocent expression in Ruskin Bond’s art. This eminent author is a veteran when it comes to human psyche. His proficiency can be seen in array of his works. He penned stories on several themes, supernatural elements is one such motif. Bond ingeniously fuses this concept with the scenic hilly areas of Shimla or Dehradun or the Himalayas or other regions like Delhi or London etc. He designs supernatural entities in such a manner that some are horrifying while the others are amusing andsociable. This paper deals with spirits who despite being ghosts do not scare or harm people but they help and enliven the lives of the characters of his stories. He creates euphoria for his readers, that mesmerizes them and tends to make them ponder over the explanation of the existence of such forces. Bond’s horror fiction also concentrates on a quest of his characters, which unlike gory macabre stories. He does not promote any superstitions but merely baffles the psyche of the individuals. Encounter in a mysterious environment of his alive as well as dead characters fuel another level of probing mystery. These issues during the finale are either resolved with rationality or left to the wisdom of the readers. He simply narrates these tales using old myths, folklores etc. prevailing in the East and the West.He composes his pure narratives especially supernatural ones solely for the booklovers to captivate and entertain their intellectual palates.
