This paper provides an outline and examples for using advertisements to teach various aspects in the classroom. More than simply guiding the students how they read and interpret the texts, introducing study of various relevant ads highlights the underlining power structure that are a part of each and every text of an advertisement. They will be able to understand not only the visible text, but also the non- verbal communication.
Analysis of Communicative behaviour, verbal symbols, paralanguage etc help to enhance the thought process and speaking skills. Correct pronunciation of mispronounced words, figures of speech, improving thought process, improving writing skills etc are possible through advertisements.
