In today’s ultra-modern age, humanism is a mere word without much meaning. In fact, it does not have much worth because people now-a-days are quite engrossed in their own life that they hardly have any time to under the other people who mattered to them. In this paper, I have endeavoured to study the work of Anita Desai namely Cry, The Peacock. In the novel of Desai, the lack of humanism is highly emphasized. It might not be wrong if we say that Cry, The Peacock speaks about the temperamental incompatibility; isolation and frustration resulting out of sexual dissatisfaction (she is highlighted as both emotionally and sexually starved woman). The novelist, Anita Desai has delved deep into her vexed characters to explain the humanistic concept which is an essence of charismatic life.
