This paper deals with the analysis of the protagonist Nina in the novel “The Immigrant” by Manju Kapur and her transformations that take place after her wedding with the NRI dentist Ananda which makes herself the woman of self reliance, who steps out to reinvent her identity. Also, it reveals the perspective of the author who tries to explore the condition of the alienated immigrant wife. The immigrant wife Nina suffers and attains such a transformation through the trials and tribulations she faces physically, and psychologically. The author also encourages the readers not to be in the shadows of the past but to get out of it and search for a new life and new ambience.
