This paper attempts to extract teaches’ perception on Formative Assessment in Compulsory/General English classes at the Aligarh Muslim University. The data was collected in this regard at AMU from English teachers and was tabulated and analyzed with the help of the statistical software package SPSS for Windows (Version 19). The statistical procedures used in this survey were descriptive statistics- frequency and percentage. The result shows that the teachers widely used Questioning tool as a formative assessment tool rather than the other formative practices like Peer/Self-Assessment, Practice Presentation, Visual Representation and Portfolio etc, in this English course.
