Inlifetime, humans experience strong emotions. Strong emotions are sometimes good but many times overpower humans. Knowingly or unknowingly these emotions control us. Indian female novelist Shashi Deshpande, raises her voice regarding the future of women in patriarchal surrounding. She specially explores about the inner turmoil of her female protagonists who emotionally struggle hard to break the rules against male dominance. Through her novels she explores the emotional instability of her female characters by exposing their pain, agony, helplessness and exploitation in their family as well as in their work place. She tried to trace the roots of the psychic barrenness in women to the imperfect perception of reality. In all her novels from 1980 to 2008, Deshpande’s protagonists are depicted as those who are trapped in tradition and culture. Her protagonists are filled with mixed emotions. Searching for identity and to prove their individuality becomes a constant struggle in their life. They are depicted as potpourri of emotions.
