Abstract

This article tries to find out how, in “The Shadow Linesâ€, a Historiographic metafiction, Amitav Ghosh attempts at subverting western historiography and the hegemony that this historiography represents by offering personal historical accounts which are mingled with the self-reflexive, non-linear, and unreliable narration of the text. In this novel stories openly speak about their “invented†nature; so, they can be created, altered and ended at will. Herein lies the textual play between history and fiction as well as the parody to prove historical accounts as artifacts.
