Abstract

In today’s scenario, probably the most compelling cause to learn the English language by the tertiary level engineering students is to meet their future needs both in academics and in their profession. So, English teachers are expected to congregate student requirements and device strategies for developing academic and professional communication. This study makes an attempt to boost the written communicative proficiency of learners through descriptive writing and to reduce learner specific deficiencies while communicating in English.  Engineering students’ are basically good at creating things and it is obviously seen when they turn abstract ideas into physical representations. In order to incorporate the same creative skills in learning English language, a few techniques are used to improve the descriptive writing of the learners. The objective is to overcome the challenges faced by the learners in a typical ESL classroom environment. In fact, this study will lead the learners to acquire the target language better and will help the learners to understand the use of contextual words, connectives and also make them familiar with aspects like coherence and structure of a paragraph.
