Abstract

Bharati Mukherjee is an expatriate writer of the Indian origin in the United States of America and one of the notable women writers who explores the contemporary themes and expresses her concerns of the suffering women in the alien soil. Her writing are noted for her depiction of cross cultural conflicts blend with the destines of her heroines, her novel Wife is a candid depiction of a modern Indian women Dimple who dreams of marrying a neuro surgeon but marries a engineer due to her family milieu and starts suffocating her life in New York due to heavy financial crisis which makes her an unsteady, helpless women in an alien land this paper focuses on bringing out the changing psychic leaves of the heroine throughout the novel using the tools of Freud and Jung.
