Constructivist Class Room: Issues in English Language Education in Kerala at the Higher Secondary Level

The curriculum of higher secondary schools in Kerala was rewritten along the line of constructivist thoughts in the last decade. So it would be appropriate to have a stock taking of the progress and issues related to the implementation. Even though the theoretical foundations of constructivism can be traced back to the beginning of the last century, it developed only towards the end of the century as a pedagogical movement. At present, constructivism is adopted in various parts of the world with varying shades. Constructivism became the main guiding principle of Kerala school curricula in 2007, when the entire textbooks were revised in accordance with the guidelines of NCF2005.
