Abstract

The American Southern playwright Lillian Hellman, in all her eight plays, has brought out various manifestations of evil, which creates problems in the characters’ lives. Out of eight plays, Lillian Hellman has written four Southern plays. Hellman, in her Southern plays, has portrayed the characteristics of Southern people. In Southern beliefs, men are dominated by evil and are weak in nature. Yet, they can endure, over come and be good once again. Southerners would not give up easily. They have a tendency to fight for their ambition until the end. In the present study, the indomitable spirit of the characters in the play The Little Foxes (1939) is analyzed to show various elements of the Southern Heritage.
