World Literature as A Tool For Learning English In The Classroom Environment

Global literature acts as a way of upholding the traditions, culture and attitudes and also as a mode of communication. It is, indeed, that literature is formed through language and language functions as a system of communication. Writing is also comes under the mode of communication. It shows that language has its distinct meaning and it depends on the interpretation of varied cultural members. Global literature reflects the ideas and culture of a people of specific group. This paper has taken Indian literature as a tool for learning English in the classroom setting. As literature is the reflection of political and philosophical values, the periods of evolution were written with the cultural aspect. These materials not only explicit the trials, tribulations and the priorities of the different people but also act as a tool to improve the language. This paper stresses Indian literature as a well-known strategy for teaching both the crucial language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing and the areas of language includes structure of the language, diction and vocabulary. The use of literary texts in the language classroom is to develop the creativity and proficiency skills of the students. Furthermore teaching the skills of language through global literature helps an individual to enrich his or her knowledge on diverse genres of global literature. Literature plays a major role in the pedagogy of English as a second language.
