Keywords:Comissiomparative Literature, Translation, English as a Second language
Comparative literature is the field of literature that deals with the study of literature and cultural expression. It is dedicated to the study of pieces of literary texts without national and linguistic barriers. Problems in the genre, mode, literary period or movement are taken into consideration for deep study. The comparatists also inquire the nitty-gritty of literary forms, analyse the existing theoretical and critical approaches and formulate necessary critical distinctions of equal importance. Translation, the process of translating words or texts from a language is interlinked with comparative literature. It is also a tool used in ESL classroom which can bring a novice closer to different writers and narrows down the cross-cultural gap. Translation helps to understand not only the culture but also the sociology, philosophy and psychology of a community.
This paper focuses on the role of English in narrowing down the cultural and linguistic boundaries created by nations in the globalized world. It also tries to analyse the role of translations in English and Comparative Literature, to explore the literature of minority languages.
