Queer Theory and Its Common Misconceptions
Keywords:
queer, societal construct, barriers, pre-imposed codes, misconceptions.Abstract
Historically locating sex and gender identities reveals themselves to be cultural construction. As Judith Butler notes, gender is performative. Queer theory says one should not be defined by the gender or personal identities, it also reminds that one should challenge the social construct that force to do so. This paper shows that identity, practise and desire are personal choices, no matter what the society keeps on believing its ’normal’ construct and it also unlocks some common misconceptions about queer.
