Abstract

Bama’s novel Sangati portray the social reality with regard to caste and gender ideology. The novel gives an insight into the emotional trauma of women, especially dalit women. They project women not as victims of caste and gender but rather as rebels fighting against it. The paper seeks to study the transformation in the representation of women from just being the victims to rebels. Sangati deals with a few women characters that raise their voice against caste and gender discrimination. These women characters use different strategies to resist the oppression and these strategies are explored in the paper.
