Abstract

Train to Pakistan chronicles the frightened reactions of a people suddenly thrown over to an uncertain destiny. Though a very fascinating novel Train to Pakistan does not carry the achieved significance of the modern Indian fiction at a higher level. It certainly is Khushwant Singh’s masterpiece and its abiding popularity has stood the test of time. Being the first novel on the theme of the partition, Train to Pakistan, has certainly a very high place in the history of Indian fiction in English and particularly the historical and political fiction. This article aims to know the archetypal patterns in Khushwant Singh’s Train to Pakistan and analysis of those patterns through the historical facts and the author’s point of view as follow.
