Abstract

New generation films are known for their unusual themes and the innovative and creative ways of storytelling. Despite the fact that they are called as 'new generation' by the observers of Kerala they are intensely romanticizing the past and it is especially connected with the way of life and convention of the general population of Kerala. Malayalam silver screen and the youth of Kerala is experiencing another rush of progress in the field of film and these movies are prominently called 'new generation' films, it's not the class or genre that makes it remarkable but rather it is for the most part delivered by youth with extremely imaginative methods and thoughts, and subsequently called the 'new generation '. Young and the middle-aged groups are now differentiated in so many aspects. Inspire of the difference in their approach the main aim of the new generation films unlike the commercial films seems to be away from making monetary gains. Climax or conclusion of the film will be suppressed silencing of multiple voices for the sake of privileged position. So usually offering no conclusion is an attempt made by new generation movies. The Films Bangalore days and Ustad Hotel even though are called as new generation gives a lot of importance to the cultural and traditional nuances of Kerala both the films are modern in few aspects and also traditional in other these films are a blend of both.. Gradual increase in globalization is what led to the development of an increasing cultural identity among the youth, this is reflected in these films.

There is a new movement in the film industry which is popularly called ‘new generation’ which has now become a trend in Malayalam film industry this movement helped to revive Malayalam film industry in the early 2010s. New generation films are known for their unusual themes and the innovative and creative ways of storytelling. Despite the fact that they are called as 'new generation' by the observers of Kerala they are intensely romanticizing the past and it is especially connected with the way of life and convention of the general population of Kerala. This research will use Globalization Enhances Cultural Identity theory, rosy retrospection and theory of cultural production to analyse the films Ustad Hotel and Bangalore days.Even though both these films are about the westernized and modern globalized youth of Kerala, the films are very much traditional and culturally rooted in terms of their story. So this research is to analyse about the western influenced youth becoming more traditionally rooted. Even though the youth of Kerala are westernised in many aspects they stick to the culture and uphold one’s own tradition.
