Abstract

The autobiography of Seleena Prakkanam Chengara Samaravum Ente Jeevithavum (Chengara Land Struggle and My Life) is in fact a social document of the Chengara land agitation in which the self and the history merges into one. The question of caste becomes central to land relations and land ownerships. The narrative addresses the prominent question – why the real tillers of land are denied land ownership? The much celebrated and glorified rural sanctity upheld by the elitist writers gets problematised here in this narrative as the village life with its deep rooted and ridiculous belief in the casteism is adequately depicted from a dalit point of view.
