Abstract

Indian Literature refers to literature that is written in English by Indian authors and

who have an Indian language as their native tongue. It also includes the body of work in English by Indian Diaspora who are settled in different countries like UK, Canada, USA, Germany, Australia and West Indies. It has a long history of growth and development as it involves several historical events and distinguished personalities. Context theory is a very important theory in English teaching, especially the teaching of reading. This paper first analyzes the  origin of Indian Literature and 20th century theory of text and context including some problems met in reading and comprehending its texts related to context theory.
