Abstract

Recently many researchers have explored the complex, situated process by which students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds become socialized into academic discourses and practices. This line of research is parallel with feminist research on language and gender, and as exemplifying the same shift from difference to diversity. Sexual identities like gender identities are to some extent culturally and locally variable. Yet, these are intersecting rather than parallel developments, because gender and sexual identities not only inflect upon one another but also mutually constitutive to a considerable extent.
