JIM’S CONFRONTATION WITH FATE IN LORD JIM: A REVIEW

Abstract

Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad highlights the struggle of the narrator, Marlow  and the unfavourable fortune of the Protagonist, Jim. Novel develops through the narration and experience of Marlow keeping Jim as the central figure. Jim, the youngest of all children, spent a very exquisite and comfortable childhood. His father was a vicar and know for his humble and kind nature. Their home was very big providing enough space to children to play. During summer, he used to spend his time in reading the sea stories. Jim’s  father came to know about Jim’s interst in sea and  the stories  related to sea voyage. He decided to send Jim to a training ship  and wanted him to join merchant navy. He was sent to a training ship packed with boys who were also his co-learners. Jim learned the things very fast as compared to other boys. Maximum of his time was devoted to dreaming about his bravery and saving the drowning passengers from the sinking ship. He always imagined himself as the hero who saved the life of  others without thinking of his own life. He is always hero in his dreams who do brave deeds.
