ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND THE GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY CULTURE; THE NIGERIAN PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
AbstractThe emergences of new theories in English language have provided new meaning in reading and writing the English language in the new millennium. Nigeria as a country in transition has been largely influenced by modern ideas and technology Nigeria as a country in transition has been largely influenced by modern ideas and technology. The correlative underlying concepts no longer refer to what was originally known rather there have been new introductions which have created avenues for re-thinking and re-evaluation.Thus, the predominant language of this phase is information technology language which should be written in the English language, needed to achieve proficiency in the information technology era.This paper therefore examines ways in which the use of the global cultural and technological approaches affects the development of the English language in Nigeria. . The paper gives examples of some prominent linguistic forms which have adapted to global usages. It also made list of some global technology tools used in the English language classroom. It concludes by re-emphasizing the need for total compliance and constant practice as options for achieving better global technology integration in our nation.
