Impugning the Progenitor : A Study of Parent-Child Conflict and Ultimate Reconciliation in Rohinton Mistry’s Such a Long Journey and J.M. Coetzee’s Disgrace
Abstract
AbstractThe present paper attempts an analysis of two post-colonial novels, Rohinton Mistry’s Such a Long Journey(1991) and J.M.Coetzee’s Disgrace(1999) in terms of father ? child conflict and discord ? Gustad and Sohrab in the first and David and Lucy in the second. In both the novels, the fathers disapprove of the choices and decisions made by their respective children throughout. But in the end, through lessons taught by life itself, they learn to accept their children as grown ups and respect their perspectives towards life and bridge the widening gap between themselves.
