Abstract

Literature is the reflection of life; it attempts to convey a perspective, mood, feeling and experience. African-American Literature is the body of literature produced in the United States by the writers of African descent. It begins with the works of late eighteenth century writers such as Phillis Wheatley. Among the themes and issues explored in this literature are African-American culture, racismslavery, and social equality.
