Abstract

Metaphors play an important role not just in literary writing but also in day to day life. They are often used to convey meanings that are larger than life in context and sometimes it is language and style that pours meaning to narration. And to this point, Toni Morrison is no exception. Her novels have been a great source of not just critical interpretation but they provide a platform for better understanding of issues and problems related to African-American society. Her works are full of meaning told in a language that is psychologically and emotionally binding. This paper discusses primarily about metaphors and their significance in brief and metaphorical signification as taken from the novel Beloved. This paper also uses the concept of 'Trauma' which is intertwined with the usage of metaphors, an essential element in the understanding of the novel.
